It has been a thrill and a challenge programming for Emulsion III, finding contemporary music which sits perfectly with contemporary jazz and draws audiences into listening to contemporary music and jazz in a fresh way. At the heart of the Ensemble Amorpha set and pop-ups are energetic and colourful pieces by established figures of the contemporary music scene, these include works by; Saariaho, Berio, Sokolovic, Holliger, Lucier and Britten. Alongside these core works are new commissions from Emulsion I and II by Trish Clowes and Chris Mayo. As an extra oddity I have programmed my own piece Light Blinks with Torches, which is an intimate musical/visual work involving clarinet, sax and a bucket of torches.
